The Festival was presented at the VI Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum

The VI Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum started its work on January 30 at the UN Headquarters in New York. About 700 delegates, including more than 35 ministers of youth policy, deputy ministers and heads of agencies of the UN member states take part in the event.

The President of ECOSOC Frederick Musiiwa Makamure Shava, opening the representative forum, emphasized that today the role of the youth in shaping the global agenda is growing, young people are involved in solution of key questions. He reminded that the forum is held since 2012 and it aims at a broad discussion of the Millennium Development Goals and the post-2015 development agenda. The President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson addressed the participants. «The youth will be the main driving force in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals!» – noted the speaker. The UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi in his speech particularly focused on the fact that today the attention to the problems of youth is at unprecedented high level, because earlier this social group, according to the Special Envoy, was remembered mainly in connection with consequences of world economic crises.

This year the Russian delegation presents the WFYS program within the forum; events in the format of thematic side-events «#WFYS2017. Feel the future! Be leader!» will be held on both days of the ECOSOC Forum on January 30 and 31. The Festival organizers told the guests, among which there were more than 100 representatives of foreign delegations participating in the ECOSOC Forum, about the history of the festival movement in Russia and in the whole world, outlined the basic conditions of participation in the Festival and announced the stages of preparation for the biggest international event in the field of youth cooperation.

Also, the delegation outlined the key numbers: at the moment more than 25 000 Russian citizens and about 8 000 citizens of other states submitted applications on the Festival website. By today, the young people from more than 100 countries of all continents announced their intention to participate. The youth from the CIS, Europe, North and Latin America shows the highest interest.

During the side-event on January 30 was also presented the program for attraction of the Public ambassadors of the Festival. In the near future, together with Russian cultural figures, athletes and public figures, famous and authoritative among young people citizens of other states will become the Public ambassadors too. Moreover, at the forum an agreement on cooperation between the National Preparatory Committee of Russia and the Caribbean Regional Youth Council was signed. The Council was established in 2011 and it unites 13 National Councils of youth in the Caribbean. The agreement implies tighter integration in preparation for the Festival, recruiting participants in the countries and promotion of the festival movement.
